People spend 33% of their lives asleep and most of them don't want to wear anything extra sensors or gadgets when sleeping. We offer the a truly non-intrusive solution to know how you sleep.
This is important as bad quality sleep affects your health in many ways. It may decrease your performance, alter you to injuries, cause obesity (visceral fat) and anxiety. Also your learning ability, memory and recovery are all linked directly to your sleep quality.
Currently sleep quality analysis is done with ECG-devices and conducting polysomnography. I can tell you that the effort, time and money this costs to a normal user, they'll just continue without any kind of analysis. Now think about how many unhappy women there are in the world when their men just keep on snoring and sleeping in starfish positions ;-)
Obviously our future product line-up will solve the problem of measuring your sleep anywhere you go in the world and help us become the platform for sleep analysis conducted at home.
Beddit Sleep Monitor is a non-intrusive solution for sleep monitoring. Place the ultra-thin sensor strip on your mattress, under the bed sheet and sleep on it! Data gets synced via Bluetooth and every morning you get a sleep analysis. We measure the heart and breathing rates, movement, night-time events, sleep cycles and snoring. iOS/Android.
Well, ABI research predicts that in 2014, 90 million wearable computing devices will be shipped, of which approximately 74 million will be biosensing. Compare this with the fact that diet and fitness apps were used by 55.7 million American adults in 2013, up from 43.9 million in 2012, according to a study by Kantar. Top this with that that 129 million American adults (55 percent of the population) own either a smartphone or a tablet or both — 116 million (49 percent of the population) own a smartphone and 64 million (27 percent) own a tablet. By 2016, Kantar expects 60 percent of American adults to have a tablet or smartphone. And this is just the U.S. Obviously, we're starting with with 35-60 year women.
At the moment we sell our devices at a retail price of 149€ / 149$. We have also licensed our sleep analysis algorithm library but those prices are not public domain. In the future we'll need to start monetizing our users also but that's not relevant yet.
We've had our share of mischiefs with the previous product versions, web-platforms and sensor technologies. We've finally understood how we need to address the consumer market in order to get into every bedroom in the world. A lot of the competitors are still relying on connecting to home wifi-network (trust me, a pain in the ass for the end-user if there's any sort of problems with it!) and extra devices. Not for us, won't go into that world any time soon unless someone points a gun at us.
Our technology is based on micro-movements of the body. For example, every time your heart beats, there's a movement big enough for our sensor to pick it up. No need for any wearable devices or gadgets and everything is available for you at a price of 149€. There are other solutions like Withings Aura or Hello Sense, but all these come packed with devices that cram up your night stand with devices and wires. We intend to remain completely invisible.
It's a startup that's scaling up. So it's chaos and whenever we recruit another pearl, they'll enhance the specific processes in the function they were recruited for. So basically there's a board, a CEO and a bunch of other titles but only execution and delivery matters!
We have our own webshop and distribution partners. We'll be available in +1500 stores in Northern America in mid-October and later in Europe (also Benelux ;-)). We also have a partnership with Misfit Wearables who sell the Misfit Beddit Sleep Monitor in their webshop and other distribution channels.
Obviously one of the main tasks is to provide a shit tonne of 3rd party integrations through our API (soon released) and focus on also monetizing our users from the software-side, not just hardware sales.
