Probleemstelling

Intensive care is saturated with data, each patient generates dozens of values per second (heart rate, blood pressure, breathing) that obviously can not be processed by human clinicians but decision-support is still not there.

one of the most challenging interventions is mechanical lung ventilation is a life saving procedure that at least 50% of intensive care patients rely on to survive which leads to severe discomfort, life-long complications due to untimely or wrong interventions

and the problem is huge - studies 6 billions usd of excessive costs for healthcare, 50% increased mortality and about 4 million patients suffering from consequences that can be prevented by continuous monitoring and decision-support

Oplossing

Clinical decision-support system using AI-based algorithm

Patient’s condition in intensive care changes very fast and it requires constant ventilator settings adjustments and/ or other things like level of sedation, etc.

DB processes patient-ventilator interactions in real time and when things go wrong immediately highlights information to clinical staff.

Most of abnormalities during lung ventilation are undetectable by machines with simple algorithmical alarms Deep Breath does it automatically providing clinical staff with actionable insights on how to personalize care, improve patients comfort and outcomes and reduce medical staff workload and burnout.

In smaller countries like the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Scandinavian nations, the numbers are lower, ranging from 500 to 1,500 intensivists.

However, apart from this our audience is much wider. There are about 10,000-12,000 board-certified intensivists in the US. Critical care is highly specialized, and intensivists mainly work in large hospitals and academic medical centers with ICUs.

Europe is more fragmented, but based on ICU capacity and healthcare structures, there are an estimated 25,000-30,000 intensivists across the continent.
Larger countries such as Germany, the UK, and France have the highest numbers, with each having roughly 4,000 to 5,000 intensivists.

By pinpointing change of state of patient and spotting the need to change settings on time, Deep Breath contributes to reduction length of stay and using less sedation. Reduction of the length of stay directly translates into cost savings. Using less sedation means less time on ventilator and fewer complications that reduces readmissions.

Concurrentie

Currently, the decision-making is done manually by clinicians at the bedside, intensive care specialist has 10-15 minutes a day on average for 1 patient to analyze the present state, which in many cases is not enough given the fact that there is no trend analysis available.

Ventilator manufacturers make attempts to come up with the same solution however, it will take them 5-10 years to bring it to market in case they are a success

Deep Breath algorithm has been recently validated by external experts from Erasmus and Leiden MCs as well as international. it has shown brilliant results in exceeding human performance in detection of patient-ventilator asynchronies

In 2026 Deep breath will be implemented as a standard of care in Erasmus , Leiden MC and Catharina hospital Eindhoven.

We also have pilot projects in Reinier de Graaf hospital, Delft. Other projects are being discussed with several more hospitals in South Holland.

Apart from this we have pilot project with Mayo and Cleveland Clinics as well as CEE and Germany.
