Probleemstelling

60% of all newborns develop jaundice; 10% require therapy to avoid potential neurological damage. Blue light phototherapy is an effective and established treatment method that has been used to treat affected babies for over 2 to 3 days. It is a common practice to confine the baby in an incubator or cot and have the baby wear goggles. More family-friendly solutions still require the parents to be in a fixed location, and the establishment of feeding, sleeping and soothing cues is compromised. Beside this, nurses struggle with staff shortages. And health systems spend billions treating jaundice inefficiently, even though these babies aren’t sick.

Oplossing

Bilihome transforms blue light phototherapy into a wearable romper as a mobile solution, allowing parents to comfort their baby at home or in the hospital.

Via the Zero Separation Care Path our technology integrates seamlessly into hospitals, offering the only wearable romper with light treatment, which is mobile. It enables full parental contact during treatment. Unlike traditional methods that isolate newborns in incubators, our solution supports kangaroo care, reducing stress and improving bonding.

Concurrentie

Other manufacturers are Neomedlight, a French medtech company, is a key competitor to Bilihome in the neonatal jaundice treatment space. Their product, BiliCocoon®, offers fiber-optic phototherapy designed to treat jaundice while preserving the bond between mother and baby. However, it does not offer flexibility to carry and move around with the child and does not offer a remote care solution or care path integration consultation. Clinical studies mention difficulties with overheating in the closed bag.

Bilihome integrates flexible hospital-grade phototherapy as a medical device class 2a, which is integrated into a soft, organic romper, allowing newborns to receive treatment without being placed in an incubator or separated from their caregivers.
