Rotterdam Square Event: Innovating Health Through Preventative Care
Join Rotterdam Square on Thursday, February 13, for an exciting event dedicated to the importance of preventative healthcare. Discover how preventative healthcare reduces the overall demand for healthcare services by managing health issues early, preventing complications that would otherwise require intensive care.
By alleviating the burden on healthcare facilities, preventative care allows healthcare workers to focus on patients with more immediate and critical needs. Ultimately, preventative healthcare contributes to a more efficient and sustainable healthcare system by reducing the incidence of severe health problems and the associated demand for medical resources. Learn how preventative healthcare promotes a longer, healthier life by focusing on staying healthy and avoiding illness.
Guest speakers
We are excited to announce our confirmed guest speakers! Starting off, we will be joined by Arjen Huizinga, Director of MiGuide. MiGuide is a Rotterdam-based company that focuses on promoting healthier lifestyles through personalized lifestyle coaching combined with smart technology. Founded in 2018, MiGuide’s initial goal was supporting people with type 2 diabetes in improving their lifestyle and reducing their dependence on medication, but they have expanded their services since then. Their main program, CooL-MiGuide, is a two-year lifestyle intervention designed to help individuals with significant overweight achieve sustainable health goals in areas like nutrition, exercise, stress management, and sleep.
We will also be joined by guest speakers dr. Kirsten Berk and Raoul Oostenbrink, founders of U-diet. Developed by extensive Erasmus MC research, U-diet is now located as a spin-off in the Erasmus MC Incubator. The company offers a scientifically proven diet and lifestyle program, focusing on helping individuals with overweight and type 2 diabetes achieve sustainable weight loss and improved health. For more information about U-diet, take a look at this interview of earlier this year.
Our third guest speaker is Annelies Nijhuis, Senior Policy Advisor Health, Digitalization & eHealth at the Municipality of Rotterdam. She will provide insights into how the city of Rotterdam and CEPHIR, the Academic Knowledge Lab for Public Health in the Rotterdam Rijnmond, Zeeland, and South Holland South regions, work on preventative care and alleviating the pressure on healthcare services.
